My name is Loriellen and I am Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist (HCPC registered) with the BPS. I have a BSc in Psychology and MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Roehampton University. I am also a swimming teacher and coach as well as a Lifeguard Trainer/Assessor. I am also currently completing a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, to teach First Aid at Work.
As a trainee sport psychologist I volunteered in amateur football where I integrated sport psychology games within the players' training sessions. However, most of my experience within sport as a swimming coach working with swimmers in the development squad to masters swimmers including retired Olympic swimmers. I have had the opportunity to use psychology skills within swimming teaching over the past 8 years and as a coach for the past 3 years.
Most of my experience within psychology lies within teaching sport psychology skills as part of half-term sport psychology camps I run at the leisure centre I work at. During these camps, I use activities and games to help the children learn psychology in a fun way on the topics of managing thoughts, emotions and behaviours, motivation, confidence, sport anxiety and concentration. My experience of conducting lifeguard courses has taught me how to structure my camps as well as giving me confidence in public speaking.
